Recently I have been asked if ivory can be worn, because it is practically another shade of the white color. Well, it depends. If the bride wears a pure white dress, then you can decide to buy an ivory one. But, if the bride is the one using the ivory color, then you should avoid it.

I know that it may be a stupid rule, but believe me that women care a lot about clothes and on the day of their wedding they just desire to be the most beautiful ones and the most loved ones. So, nothing should ruin this day, no matter what. Maybe some women do not care that much about this aspect, but there are some brides, who I used to call “bridezillas”, who are really nervous when they feel a little competition, even if that girl didn’t mean it like this. So, in order to avoid all problems, you have to give up on choosing a dress that has the same color with the one of the bride.

And you have to know that this rule does not apply only at white or ivory dresses, but also at no matter which color the bride wears. So, if the bride is a little bit bolder than others and she decides that she would like to choose a red dress, for a themed wedding, then all the other guests should take into consideration this and avoid that color (and I mean here not to have a similar dress or a full red dress).

But, there is an exception that can allow you to wear the same color as the bride, and this happens when you receive on the invitation a dressing code that imposes a certain color or look. This usually happens when the bride organizes a themed wedding party, or when she chooses her bridesmaids to have the same dress color as her.

So, my advice would be to talk to the bride first, and decide if she has a problem or not with you wearing white or ivory. In this way you will know what to do.
